Uri, June 19 (KTR): Social activist and senior journalist Nadeem Khawaja Uri, along with his associates, began ainner 23-kilometre barefoot protest march from the Tehsil headquarters Boniyar to the SDM Office Uri in protest against the acute shortage of teaching staff in higher secondary and high schools across Sub Division Uri.
Nadeem Khawaja initiated the protest march from Boniyar with a few associates, and as the march progressed, more people joined him in support of the noble cause.
Khawaja alleged that he has received threats for raising public issues and stated that his protest is a demand for the immediate and full deployment of teaching staff in all educational institutions of Sub Division Uri.
Nadeem Khawaja was accompanied by activist Wahid shah, Social Activist Neimullah Khan, Socio political activist Irfan Ahmad Chak, Rehan Ilyas, Sohail Shakeel and Ashiq Sikander from Tehsil headquarters Boniyar to SDM Office Uri.
He further shared a moving incident, saying that he received a phone call from a 9th-grade student aspiring to become a police officer, who broke down in tears while explaining that two subject teachers are missing in his class, causing severe setbacks to the education of poor students.
“A 23-kilometre-long barefoot protest march by Nadeem Khawaja and his associates is a reflection of their commitment, dedication, and care for society,” one of the protesters stated.
It is pertinent to mention that this demand was earlier raised by Khawaja in his daily Vlog. However, he stated that despite knocking on every door of the concerned department and approaching people in power, his pleas have been met with negligence from the higher authorities. This continued indifference is both disheartening and alarming, especially in a democracy where elected representatives are expected to redress the grievances of the people.(KTR).
