Srinagar, Mar 26 (KTR): The Delhi High Court has granted Member of Parliament Er Rashid permission to attend the ongoing session of the Lok Sabha, allowing him to continue his duties as the elected representative of North Kashmir while in custody. This decision enables Rashid to participate in the second part of the 4th session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which runs from March 26 to April 4, 2025.

The ruling has been hailed as a significant victory for democracy and justice. In a statement to the Digital News Kashmir Time Reports (KTR ), Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi expressed his gratitude to the judiciary for upholding democratic values. He emphasized that the decision ensures Er Rashid can continue to represent his constituents in the national legislature, despite the challenges posed by his current circumstances. Un Nabi also acknowledged the legal team, led by advocates N. Hariharan and Vikhyat Oberoi, for their dedication in securing this favorable outcome.

As per the court’s order, Er Rashid will be escorted by police from the prison to the Parliament, where he will be handed over to the security staff. He will be allowed to participate in parliamentary proceedings under strict conditions, which include limitations on media interactions and restricted communication access. This arrangement highlights the importance of preserving the democratic rights of the people of North Kashmir, ensuring their representation is not compromised.

This decision marks a significant moment in upholding the principle that elected representatives must continue to fulfill their duties, irrespective of their personal or legal challenges. The move reinforces the notion that the voice of the people, no matter their situation, must be heard in the country’s legislative process.
