Baisakhi Buzz Marred by Food Safety Violations Near Srinagar Gurdwara, Mughal Gardens
Srinagar, April 12: Just ahead of Baisakhi celebrations, the Food Safety Team Srinagar, under directions from Deputy Commissioner Mr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din, uncovered multiple food safety violations during inspections near the Gurdwara and Mughal Gardens.
Around 10 Food Business Operators (FBOs) were flagged for non-compliance and will face action under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act. Four FBOs were penalized on the spot, paying fines totaling ₹11,000.
The team also conducted awareness sessions to educate vendors about hygiene and public health standards. Authorities stressed the importance of citizen vigilance and urged the public to report food safety issues via the helpline 104, provided complaints include solid proof.
While the drive aims to protect public health, critics question why such inspections are often reactive rather than consistent year-round.
